Summer Skin Saviours

21.7.15

Hello everyone! As my summer in America comes to an end, I think it's safe to say that I know my fair share about staying safe in the sun but also getting a good colour. Today I wanted to share with you three products I've used almost every day for the past ten weeks and some tips on how to get a lovely tan.

First I want to talk about picking the right SPF factor for your skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation provides an excellent explanation of SPF when they say that "If it takes 20 minutes for your unprotected skin to start turning red, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer — about five hours." So be sure to chose an SPF suited to how your skin reacts to the sun. Personally I don't burn easily so I usually go for an SPF of 15 but if you do burn easily SPF 30 or 50 might suit you better.

You may have noticed that all the products featured above are by Hawaiian Tropic, this is because I absolutely love their products tropical scents and how light weight their products are on my skin.

I use the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen in SPF 15 most often and I find it gives good coverage against the hot American sun. Before coming here, I thought that using an SPF lower than 15 would help me tan faster, but that isn't the case. Of course using SPF factors like 8 or 4 is totally a personal choice, but just remember that you can still achieve a brilliant tan and protect your skin.

For days when I'm in the water, either swimming or going on boat trips, I like to use Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport in SPF 30. This is a spray sunscreen that is water and sweat resistant. I like to use a higher SPF factor on sensitive parts of my skin when I'm in the sun all day, like my shoulders, or face.

After being in the sun all day, your skin needs to be replenished with the moisture the sun has drawn out of it. The Hawaiian Tropic After Sun lotion is perfect and I always apply some after I shower off the sea salt from a long day in the sun. I love the Lime Coolada scent of this lotion and it leaves my skin soft. Regularly moisturising your skin will also help to extend the life of your tan!

I hope you enjoyed this post and that you are all having a lovely summer, whether at home or abroad.
Thanks so much for reading!
